Swap BTC to XMR without KYC and without an account
What this swap is
btc-xmr.com runs a maker on the eigenwallet atomic-swap network. You send Bitcoin and receive Monero, and the maker never holds your BTC: it goes into a 2-of-2 Bitcoin lock with a refund path, and leaves that lock only when the maker has locked the Monero for you, or back to you if the maker fails. There is no account, no email and no KYC, because the protocol has nothing to attach them to. The site is also served over Tor at btcxmrj6vte7yjuefnju3nowry5o76po6mtsnnk5jkoj3jmyp2mt2oqd.onion. This page is the browser route step by step; the protocol and timelocks are on the How it works page.
What you need
A Bitcoin browser extension wallet: Unisat or OKX Wallet are the two we document, and the Swap page also detects other injected Bitcoin wallets. A Monero address to receive the XMR, from any wallet. An amount inside today's limits: the minimum and maximum are read live from the maker and shown next to the quote; the maximum follows the maker's XMR inventory and both can change at any time, so do not rely on a number read elsewhere, including on this page.
In the browser route a taker, the software that talks to the maker, runs on our server for your swap. Your extension signs one Bitcoin transaction, sending the BTC to that taker's deposit address; the taker funds the 2-of-2 lock and drives the rest. Your private keys stay in the extension and are never sent to us. If you do not want your BTC to pass through a wallet on our server even briefly, use the desktop app.
Step by step
1. Connect your wallet on the Swap page and paste your Monero address. 2. Enter a BTC amount; the page shows the live quote, the XMR you will receive and the current limits. A quote is valid for a short time; if it expires, get a new one. 3. Confirm: the extension asks you to sign the one transaction that sends the BTC in. 4. Once the Bitcoin lock has one confirmation, the maker locks the XMR. 5. After ten Monero confirmations, the taker gives the maker an encrypted signature that lets it take the BTC, and taking the BTC reveals the key piece the taker needs to sweep the XMR to your address. Neither side can take one leg without giving up the other.
Closing the tab is safe: the swap state lives on the server, and the XMR arrives without further action from you. The Bitcoin lock is an ordinary transaction you can check on any block explorer; the Monero lock is on-chain too, but like every Monero transaction its amount and destination are only readable with the view key.
What it costs
Two things. The maker's commission: a markup over the Kraken XMR/BTC rate, currently around 1.2 to 1.4 %, already inside the quote you confirm. And Bitcoin network fees for the on-chain transactions, which depend on the mempool at that moment. There is no developer tip and nothing is added after you confirm. The breakdown is in the fees section of How it works.
How long it takes
Typically 30 to 60 minutes: one Bitcoin confirmation before the maker locks XMR, then ten Monero confirmations before the taker sends the signature that completes the swap. Slow Bitcoin blocks or a congested mempool stretch the first part. A custodial service can look faster because it only credits an internal balance; an atomic swap waits for two real chains.
If something goes wrong
If the session fails before the lock is built, the BTC is still in the taker's deposit wallet on our server; a scheduled job returns it to the wallet address you connected with, and Recover BTC under My swaps triggers the same return by hand. If the lock is built but the maker never locks the XMR, the taker waits for the cancel timelock (about 24 Bitcoin blocks, roughly 4 hours), publishes the cancel transaction, then the refund transaction returns the BTC. You pay the network fees for those two transactions; you do not lose the BTC. The protocol also has a punish path: if a cancelled swap is not refunded within about 144 more blocks, the maker may claim the BTC. Our taker does the refund for you, so this only matters if our server were down for about a day; start with an amount you are comfortable with.
This is not anonymity from chain analysis. The Bitcoin transactions, into the deposit address, into the lock and, on failure, back out, are public and linked to the address that funded them. The Monero side has Monero's own privacy. "No KYC, no account" means exactly that, no more.
Prefer the desktop app?
The same maker is reachable from the eigenwallet desktop app, where the taker and its Bitcoin wallet run on your own machine. Add the rendezvous node /dns4/p2p.btc-xmr.com/tcp/8890/p2p/12D3KooWBPe3sx6dDqE1RSzeBpH1ayghtBp4cgyymti5rPy79xWz and the maker appears in the app's list with the same live quote. Setup steps are in the desktop section of How it works.
Questions
Do I need an account or ID to swap BTC to XMR here?
No. There is no account, no email and no KYC. You connect a Bitcoin browser wallet, give a Monero address, and swap. The maker never holds your BTC: it sits in a 2-of-2 lock with a refund path until the Monero is locked for you.
What is the minimum and maximum amount?
They are read live from the maker and shown on the Swap page next to the quote. Both can change at any time, so do not trust a fixed number from another site, or from this page.
How long does a BTC to XMR atomic swap take?
Usually 30 to 60 minutes: one Bitcoin confirmation for your lock, then ten Monero confirmations for the maker's lock. Slow Bitcoin blocks make it longer. You do not need to keep the tab open; the swap state lives on the server.
What does it cost?
The maker's commission, a markup over the Kraken XMR/BTC rate of roughly 1.2 to 1.4 % already inside the quote you confirm, plus Bitcoin network fees for the on-chain transactions. No developer tip, nothing added after you confirm.
What happens if the maker goes offline mid-swap?
If the XMR is never locked, the taker waits for the cancel timelock (about 24 Bitcoin blocks), then the cancel and refund transactions return the BTC. You pay their network fees but do not lose the BTC, and you do not need to keep the tab open.
